The Jazz Ambassadors of The United States Army Field Band is the Department of the Army's official touring jazz orchestra. Since its formation in 1969, this 19-member big band has received great acclaim both at home and abroad performing America's original art form, jazz.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Professional performance level
Proficiency in a variety of jazz big band styles
Strong sight-reading skills
Baccalaureate degree or higher preferred but not required
Ability to meet Army height/weight standards
Must be 17-34 years of age
U.S. citizen or permanent resident alien
SALARY:
$50,959–$57,385 (Army rank of Staff Sergeant)
JOB DESCRIPTION:
Perform as lead and/or split lead trumpet player in the Jazz Ambassadors
Tour approximately 100 days per year in the U.S. and abroad
Work with Education Outreach Program in schools across the nation
Position requires a minimum 4-year enlistment--the candidate will be informed of acceptance prior to enlistment
BENEFITS:
College loan repayment program--up to $65,000

AUDITION PROCESS:
Please submit a recent resume and preliminary CD. (ALL MATERIALS MUST BE RECEIVED BY THE DATE ABOVE). The recording should contain approximately 15 minutes of material demonstrating lead playing in various styles and tempos. Performance with a big band is preferred, but not mandatory.
Applicants selected from screening of recordings will be invited for a personal interview and audition. Travel expenses will be paid by the United States Army. Military personnel must be eligible for permanent change of station and must submit a letter from their unit commander recommending the candidate for reassignment if offered the position.
Due to recent enlistment policy restrictions, prior service personnel are advised to consult with their local Army recruiter concerning eligibility.

Trumpet Audition
Audition Process:
Preliminary audition CDs/MP3s and resumes are due June 1, 2012. Applicants who are considered musically qualified will be contacted by the USAF Band auditions team and then by a local Air Force recruiter to assess each applicant's eligibility to enlist in the Air Force. Once approved by the recruiter, applicants will receive an audition invitation letter. All invited candidates must be prepared to meet Air Force maximum allowable weight standards.
