West Texas A&M University Department of Music Announces GRADUATE ASSISTANTSHIP in the area of TRUMPET For the 2012-2013 Academic year
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree in music and admission to the Graduate program at WTAMU. Applicant must be a strong performer.
DUTIES:
Perform in the Faculty Brass Quintet. The Quintet performs recitals twice a year on campus and at various university and community functions. The Quintet also usually schedules one performance tour each year. Additional duties could include performing in the WTAMU Symphonic Band and the WTAMU Symphony Orchestra and assisting in the applied studio, studio classes, and chamber music ensembles. Other duties based on qualifications.
SCHOLARSHIP/ STIPEND:
Scholarship would include out-of-state tuition waiver. Stipend is $10,000 for a 9-month appointment. Assistantship award is renewable for second year. Additional income is possible through teaching privately and freelancing in Amarillo, a city of 190,000 with a strong support for the arts. The chosen candidate would also be utilized as assistant principal trumpet with the Amarillo Symphony, on a per-service compensational basis.
AUDITION:
Applicants are encouraged to audition on campus by April 9, 2012. Audition could include a solo, etudes, and orchestral excerpts of the applicant’s choice, scales (major and minor) and sight reading. Audition will also include a rehearsal with the faculty brass quintet. Repertoire for this rehearsal will be distributed to applicants.
DEGREES OFFERED: Master of Arts in Music with Recital, Thesis, or Non-Thesis options, and Master of Music in Performance.
FACULTY:
Dr. William Takacs, trumpet, (BM in trumpet performance from West Chester University, MM in trumpet performance from Bowling Green State University, DM in trumpet performance from Florida State University) is principal trumpet of the Amarillo Symphony Orchestra and performs regularly with the Amarillo Opera. Dr. Takacs was the winner of the Graduate Division of the 1999 National Trumpet Competition and was one of five semifinalists chosen worldwide to compete in the 2000 Ellsworth Smith International Trumpet Competition.

GRADUATE TRUMPET ASSISTANTSHIP: There are two graduate trumpet assistantships available at the University of Georgia beginning in the Fall of 2012. The primary responsibilities of the assistantships are playing in the Bulldog Brass Quintet, a fully funded graduate brass quintet. Additional duties may be assigned as needed. The assistantships come with full tuition and a stipend around $10,500 (slightly more for doctoral candidates).
The application deadline for graduate studies at University of Georgia is December 1st, which includes an audition CD/DVD containing the following: 2 contrasting solos with piano (this can be a live performance from a recent recital), a Charlier Etude of your choice, and Mahler 5 opening, Petrouchka Ballerina's Dance, and Pines of Rome off-stage solo. Candidates will be selected from the CD/DVD screening for a live audition.

The Wanda L. Bass School of Music at Oklahoma City University announces Graduate Assistantships in trumpet, trombone, horn and tuba starting in August of 2011. Graduate assistants are to play in the Blackwelder Brass, a graduate brass quintet with duties that include outreach concerts, university events and church residencies. Graduate assistants are also expected to play in other university ensembles as assigned. The winners of these positions will receive a full-tuition scholarship (does not include fees), modest monthly stipends and added pay for performing in churches on weekends. Additional work is available teaching private lessons and
freelancing in Oklahoma City.
The Wanda L. Bass School of Music at Oklahoma City University is renowned for its exceptional training of musicians in the liberal arts tradition. For 80 years, its graduates have been in demand as singers, conductors, composers, instrumentalists, educators, critics and commentators.
School of Music alumni include Grammy, Tony, and Emmy Award winners. The Wanda L. Bass Music Center, a $31.5 million, 117,000-square-foot addition more than doubles the size of the Bass School of Music. The Bass Music Center features 60 additional practice rooms, 40 new teaching studios, seven high-tech music labs, six ensemble rehearsal rooms, and a black-box theater. The expansion incorporates new advances in sound isolation and acoustical breakthroughs.
Oklahoma City University offers MM degrees in performance, composition and conducting. The school is a full member of the National Association of Schools of Music.

The School of Music at The University of Southern Mississippi announces a Graduate Teaching Assistantship in Trumpet beginning in August, 2012. This position is available to both DMA and MM applicants. It is renewable for a second year assuming the student is making satisfactory progress.
Duties: The Graduate Teaching Assistant will teach undergraduate applied trumpet lessons, perform as a member of the Southern Arts Faculty Brass Quintet, coach student chamber ensembles, and perform other administrative duties within the trumpet studio as assigned by the professor.
Benefits: $7,200 stipend paid over 9 months (September-May), tuition waivers for both in-state and out-of-state tuition (fees not included), and health insurance.
SOUTHERN MISS SCHOOL OF MUSIC
The University of Southern Mississippi School of Music has a longstanding international reputation for musical excellence. Serving more than 450 music majors from the United States and 15 countries, the school maintains a strongly diverse student population.
USM student ensembles have been featured performers at national conventions of the ACDA, CBDNA, American Bandmasters’ Association, MTNA, MENC, International Tuba-Euphonium Conference, and the UNT Jazz Festival. The USM Trumpet Ensemble was a National Finalist in the 2011 National Trumpet Competition which was held in Fairfax, Virginia.The School of Music is fully accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music.
